Train frontline workers in de-escalation without re-traumatizing the people taking the course.
De-escalation training touches some of the hardest moments in healthcare and public service. Welle Health needed a curriculum that built real skill — through realistic scenarios, decision drills, and practiced response — while being designed from the start to protect learners from re-traumatization, working in three languages, and reaching audiences with widely varying baselines.
Trauma-informed design as a first principle, not a content warning.
- 01
Scenario design with practitioners
Built realistic scenarios with healthcare workers, law-enforcement trainers, and educators — grounded in real cases, abstracted to protect identities.
- 02
Trauma-informed UX
Pacing, opt-out paths, content warnings, and learner agency designed in from storyboard. Audited by clinical reviewers before any production.
- 03
Brand-locked design system
A single design system extended cleanly across three languages, with culturally-aware imagery and translation review by native-speaker SMEs.
- 04
Decision drills, not slideware
Branching scenarios with consequence tracking, paired with reflection prompts and decision rationales — so learners practice the thinking, not just the right answer.
What landed in their hands.
